Home Game - submitted via email by Spencer

ed. fyi: This is what happens when you email us erroneous information. We post it and make fun of you. The next account is word for word his email to us.

Last week at my home game, we were playing a $50 buy in tournament with 8 people, so $400 in the pot. 1st place $250, 2nd $100 and 3rd $50.
There are 4 people left and I am dealt a pair of 5's on the small blind. The first 2 people fold. I go all-in thinking the big blind will fold. (he is very tight) So the big blind calls me.
He is holding ace, queen. I think right away I am done! The flop comes 5, 8, Jack. I am really happy that I made the set of 5's. Now he needed 2 aces or 2 queens on the turn and river.
The turn is an ace! I am thinking there is no way another ace will come to give him the win.
So the river comes and I am stunned, the 3rd ace comes to beat my set of 5's.
Maybe I took a gamble with my pair of 5's, but once the 3rd 5 came I had it for sure, so I thought.

ed. fyi:
Man you got ganked at your own house! Do you have any open seats? For the English-challenged, Spencer here had what we call a full house. In most civilized poker games that beats trips. Even if it's trip Aces.

Semi-Graphically:

Spencer has 5-5
Foe has A-Q

Flop 5-8-J

Turn A

River A

pwned.

Home Game - submitted via email by Mark

I was playing in a simple NLH home tourney with some friends when this little puppy came up!
I’m dealt QQ (I will leave out the suits as they didn’t factor) on the button (3 handed) and raised big, the perp calls and I figure they probably have at least 1 ace, however they have played a bit loose during the game so they could have a king or a small pair. The other guy correctly folds.

Flop [Q, 2, A]

ed. fyi:
QQ = 97.1%
A-10 = 2.9%

I couldn’t get my cash in quick enough!!!! And sure enough the perp flat calls my all in (didn’t even hesitate)!! So I figure they have AA.
We turn them over and they have A 10. I think I’m a shoe in here!!

Turn: [A]

Show tunes are now going off in my head as I have a full house. Of cause I need to dodge 1 of 4 cards on the river (the 4th ace or 1 of the 3 10s left). I think the odds of me not getting nailed are pretty good as I have been winning most of the showdowns I get into..

ed. fyi:
QQ = 84.1%
A-10 = 15.9%

5th street: 10.

I find out after the dust settles and I climb back in from the balcony that it just happened to be the first time the perp had played hold ‘em in a live game. That just added insult to injury!!!.

ed. fyi:
You should have known better. Beginners always win. Tough love, baby. Perhaps think of something other than show tunes to give you good luck.

Home Game - submitted via email by James

Pocket 5c, 4h in BB.

My friend to my left who is short stacked, limps in on the button and the small blind folds.

Flop: 6s, 2c, 3d. I flopped a straight!

The bet's to me and I put him all in. He immediately calls, and turns over pocket 10's.
I show him the made straight and he sighs " I'm dominated"

ed. fyi:
4,5 = 96.7%
10-10 = 3.3%

Turn: 2s.

ed. fyi:
4,5 = 90.9%
10-10 = 9.1%

5th street was a 10 shocking all of us and sending me on tilt and soon to be out in 3rd place.

ed. fyi:
Well, it's not like he didn't have you beat pre-flop... better luck next time.

No Limit Hold'em Tourney - submitted via email by Jason

"I was playing in a no-limit tourney when a person across the table goes all-in on me. I have AA. The person to the right of me is thinking about calling and reluctantly folds. I call & flop my AA. The person shows his hand: 88.

ed. fyi:
AA = 79.7%
88 = 20.3%

The person thinking about calling but folded showed his hand: he also had 88.

ed. fyi:
Woooooooooooooo!

AA = 94.7%
88 = 3.8%
88 = 1.5%

To make it better (or worse) The person who was all in had an 8 of diamonds & an 8 of spades. I had an A of diamonds and an A of spades.

ed. fyi:
Because we know all the eights are burned from the deck, the 8's have a 1.5% chance of winning. (unless you're playing online...)

Flop: J, 10, 7

ed. fyi:
The pocket 88's chances now have increased to a whopping 9%

Turn: 2

ed. fyi:
The pocket 88's chances now have decreased to a staggering 4.8%

River: 9

Outdrew my aces on the river the only way possible for him to win. By far the worse bad beat i have ever had. Definately worth a discount. "

ed. fyi:
You should have known your aces were going to get cracked. Kudos, Jason. Your debacle is now immortalized forever!

No Limit Hold'em Tourney at the Pacific Coast Casino

7 Players left, and two go heads up: GH and EG got all their chips into the pot before the flop. They were both holding AJ.

GH: Ac Jh: 49.7%
EG: Ah Js: 50.3%

The Flop: 10h, 7h, 5h. Hmmm.

Here's the ugly mess:

GH throws his chips at EG and flips over the poker table. Ouch.
